Hey Friends,
This week, I wanted to share another gentle tip for parents raising children with Cerebral Palsy or any disability. It may apply not only to children with disabilities, but to any child who learns and grows at their own pace.
As a parent, one of the hardest things you may face is knowing when to step in—and when to step back.
When your child has Cerebral Palsy, your instinct is often to help quickly. You can see the challenge ahead. You know it may take longer, look different, or require extra patience. And out of love, you want to make it easier.
But there is so much growth in letting your child try.
In Abby-Ability, Abby is determined to do things her own way. She may take a different path, but she shows that ability isn’t about speed or perfection—it’s about effort, creativity, and believing in yourself. Abby’s journey reflects what happens when a child is given time, encouragement, and the freedom to try.
When you allow your child to try—even if it takes longer—you are sending a powerful message: You are capable. I believe in you. Those moments, even the messy or frustrating ones, build confidence and independence. Small victories become big steps forward.
Progress doesn’t always look like others expect it to. Sometimes it looks like persistence. Sometimes it looks like adapting. And sometimes it looks like a child doing something in their own unique way—and that matters.
At Green Ribbon Books, this message is at the heart of every story: children with Cerebral Palsy are capable, strong, and worthy of opportunity. When you give your child space to try, you are helping them discover their own Abby-Ability.
Scripture Reflection:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13
A beautiful reminder that strength looks different for everyone—and with faith, patience, and love, your child can do amazing things.
